Download Drupal 8

Ready for review -- Last peer review: 6 Nov 2014
Steps:
  1. Locate the latest version of Drupal 8. Select the 8.x versions on the Releases page to find Drupal 8.x-dev.
    Download Drupal Core
  2. Download the Drupal core package to your computer.
  3. Select a location on your hard drive for your site files to live. Typically you will put it in the same folder as your other websites are in. Dev Desktop added your initial Drupal 7 site as a folder named "acquia-drupal." You should put this new Drupal download next to that folder. E.g. by default on a Mac, Dev Desktop will put this in the Sites folder, so you should see an acquia-drupal folder there, and put this download next to it (not inside it).
  4. Rename the folder (Drupal X.x) to "mydrupalname" (or whatever name you choose) for simplicity.

Continue with section 3 of 3 to finish installing Drupal locally: Launch Drupal 8 on Dev Desktop

I've been working on rewriting this step to utilize Acquia Dev Desktop 2. You can find the current draft in this public Google Doc.

Thanks very much for writing these steps.
